Anticipate 2.5-3lbs to cover a foot.  1 pound= 235-250 pieces.  

I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING TILE NIPPERS ON SMALTI.  I only use dual wheeled mosaic nippers or a traditional hammer & hardie as tile nippers normally crush the glass.
